East Clare Young Musicians

Tulla Young Musicians

East Clare Young Musicians are a group of young people who are mostly being taught music by Mary MacNamara. Mary makes young people aware of the indigenous style of music which they have inherited both orally through the community and through her teaching.

Activities are mostly music sessions for pleasure, playing at concerts, community and charity events. All of the musicians are of a very high calibre and many are also All Ireland winners at Fleadh Ceol na h-Éireannn.

To date the young musicians have participated in a number of cultural exchange projects with the Shetland Islands, Norway and America. East Clare young musicians visited Boston from 5th to 11th November 2014 on a musical/cultural exchange with a group of similar age from the Boston branch of Comhaltas. The trip included workshops/sessions and social activities.

In February 2015 the Boston group visited East Clare for the 2nd leg of the exchange. This was a fantastic experience for all concerned and provided six great days of music, song, dance and the crack.

As part of this project two CDs have been produced.: “Unfolding” East Clare Young Musicians recorded live at Shortts Bar, Feakle. This has received fantastic reviews.

“From Tulla to Boston” Boston musicians and East Clare musicians recorded live at the Burren in Boston USA. This is another wonderful collection of solos, duets and Band music which is totally engaging. These two CD’s can be bought at The Music Room and all the proceeds go towards the Boston Exchange and East Clare Musicians projects.

East Clare Young Musicians enjoy and welcome young musicians to visit and play at their sessions.
